Young at Heart: The Story of Teachers Redros and Zoini Piokera
In the heart of Titiana Adventist Church, a dedicated power couple stands as a testament to a lifetime of service and faith. Teachers Redros and Zoini Piokera, affectionately known by many in their community, are young at heart despite their many years of tireless work for the Lord.
Over the weekend of September 26-28, the Piokeras were among more than 400 church leaders who attended the Discipleship and Evangelism Training held at Kukudu. These were not just any leaders—they were extraordinary. Their service in Adventist primary schools across Western Choiseul and Malaita Provinces began soon after their graduation from Sonoma Adventist College, Papua New Guinea, in the late 1970s. For decades, they impacted the lives of hundreds of students, always guided by their faith and a calling to serve.
Now in their retirement, with four children and three grandchildren, Redros and Zoini reflect on their journey with hearts full of gratitude. "We've seen the hand of God so great in our service for Him," they shared.
Mr. Redros, a gifted storyteller, continues to captivate listeners with his tales, filled with creativity and spiritual insights. His wife Zoini, with a smile that radiates warmth, adds that she loves welcoming people into their home. Her favorite ministry? Sharing meals, especially with the children who frequent their doorstep. "We never miss the blessing of sharing," she says with a knowing smile.
Though they officially retired in 2017, their hearts remain firmly on mission. The Piokeras are still actively involved in various church departments, committed to discipleship and evangelism. They were particularly touched by the simplicity and clarity of the training at Kukudu. "It’s easy to understand, and it's something we can take back to our church," they said.
Their story is a reminder that God’s faithful servants never truly retire. They continue to teach, to mentor, and to inspire others with the wisdom they’ve gathered from a lifetime of service.
As we reflect on the Piokeras' journey, let us also remember the many retired workers throughout the Solomon Islands Mission. These "young at hearts" carry with them years of experience and love for the Lord. Let us keep them in our prayers, and whenever we can, let us learn from their wisdom. They are living legacies of faith, and their stories will continue to inspire generations to come.
Is there a retired leader in your church or community? Take time to sit with them, to listen, and to treasure the wisdom they offer. Their lives are a testament to what it means to serve the Lord with all your heart, even in the later years.
