New classroom opened at Tonga school
March 11, marked a significant milestone for Mizpah Adventist High School in Vava’u, Tonga, with the inauguration of its latest educational facility. This new classroom, valued at approximately TOP$150,000, represents a leap forward in the school's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to engaging learning and the development of skills relevant to the 21st century. The facility, equipped with state-of-the-art online resources, was inaugurated by Minister ‘Etuini Mo’unga, the president of the Beulah Ex-Students Association in the United States, which generously funded the project.
In conjunction with the classroom unveiling, the school also introduced new Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) materials. These resources, which cost TOP$20,000, are targeted at enhancing the quality of home economics education. They were procured through contributions from the school, with support from key stakeholders including the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Vava’u and the broader Tongan church community. Dr. Elisapesi Manson, an education consultant for Adventist Schools in Tonga, praised the initiative. She highlighted the importance of creating learning environments that promote flexibility and group work, as well as leveraging technology for research, discovery, and the acquisition of real-world skills. Dr. Manson expressed optimism about the new learning opportunities these resources will bring and their potential to elevate the quality of education at Mizpah Adventist High School.
This initiative is in line with the outcomes of a school improvement needs assessment conducted in 2021. The study underscored the need for enhancing 21st-century competencies among students and integrating TVET subjects into the curriculum, paving the way for a comprehensive and forward-thinking educational approach at Mizpah Adventist High School.
