New wellness hub to join the fight against NCDs in Fiji

On February 18, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Narewa, Fiji, proudly inaugurated its new 10,000 Toes Wellness Hub. This new facility is dedicated to improving the health of the local communities of Narewa, Sikituru, and Yavusania. It offers complimentary health screenings aimed at the early identification of diabetes and various chronic conditions. Furthermore, the hub advocates for holistic health through its comprehensive lifestyle modification programs.

In Fiji, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are responsible for approximately 80% of all mortalities, a situation the 10,000 Toes Campaign is determined to reverse. With an ambitious goal, the campaign plans to increase its network from over 40 hubs to more than 100 by mid-2025. Pamela Townend, the campaign's coordinator, emphasizes the power of lifestyle alterations in combatting this distressing trend.

"We are committed to our mission, supported by a dedicated team of 10,000 Toes ambassadors, who are working tirelessly to inspire individuals, families, and workplaces to improve their health and lifestyle choices. Our ultimate aim is to foster communities that are healthier, happier, and more robust," stated Mrs. Townend.

During the hub's launch, Pastor Glenn Townend, president of the South Pacific Division, attributed the success of the new facility to the divine inspiration and the commitment of the church community to a healthy lifestyle and the principles of lifestyle medicine.

The opening ceremony saw the participation of key figures including Maveni Kaufononga, president of the Trans Pacific Union Mission, Nasoni Lutunaliwa, president of the Fiji Mission, alongside ministers and church members from the Nadi district.

Mrs. Townend also extended an invitation for broader community involvement in this health initiative. "This project is making a significant impact across the South Pacific. We encourage your support, whether through donations to a Wellness Hub, purchasing our merchandise, or subscribing to our quarterly newsletter," she remarked.
