Peter Terepakoa Memorial SDA Church Opens in Ifira Tenuku, Vanuatu

November 28, 2024, marks a historic day for Ifira Tenuku as the community witnesses the opening of its very own Seventh-day Adventist Church—112 years after the Adventist message first reached Vanuatu in 1912.

This newly dedicated church, named the Peter Terepakoa Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church in honor of a beloved local pioneer, stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and mission.

The opening ceremony was graced by Literature Evangelists (LE) from Efate, including Anna Seth, who shared her inspiring journey of visiting Ifira with books since 1993. Adventist Teacher Allan Martin, honored during the program, recalled his efforts in leading a group of students to worship every Sabbath during his tenure on the island from 2004 to 2005.

The legacy of late Pastor Simon Garae was also celebrated. In the 1990s, he braved the waters by canoe to share Bible truths and the Sabbath message with the people of Ifira Tenuku. His dedication continues to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

Pastor John Leeman, Efate District Leader, conducted the inaugural service in the newly built church. Reflecting on the occasion, he remarked, “If late Pastor Simon Garae were here today, he would be truly happy.”

As we celebrate this milestone, let us be reminded of Jesus’ words: “My house shall be a house of prayer for all nations.” May this new church be a beacon of hope, worship, and prayer, inviting many to know and experience God's love.

Additionally, November 30 marked the first ever baptism for the Seventh-day Adventist Church to happen on the island of Ifira.
