SI Adventist Health Professionals Unite for Discipleship

The Adventist Health Professionals conference, held from October 18-20, 2024, gathered 165 attendees at the SINU lecture theatre with the theme 'YOUR HANDS HIS TOUCH A JOURNEY INTO DISCIPLESHIP'. Dr. Chester Kuma, the SIM Health Director, shared, “Our goal was to empower health professionals to become true Disciples of Christ.” Participants expressed their gratitude, with Gad stating, “All in all, it was a very successful conference according to the health professionals’ feedback. We are all spiritually enriched.”

The South Pacific faces a serious challenge with the highest rates of non-communicable diseases, threatening this regional development and for this case Solomon Islands. The 10,000 Toes campaign aims to save lives by equipping villages with skills to assess health, training lifestyle to prevent and enhancing healthcare professional abilities to manage diseases. This initiative was promoted at the recent conference highlighting our commitment to a healthier future for the nation.

Franklyn Julius noted, “We have Adventist health professionals coming from as far as Lord Howe and Malaita provinces, including Atoifi Hospital and School of Nursing staff.” This gathering allowed participants to reminisce, reconnect, and share their experiences while being empowered by the Word of God. “We have other dynamic presenters; a big thanks to them,” he added.

Dr. Kuma emphasized the need for a shift from being mere church members to active Disciples of Christ, saying, “We want to see health professionals live out Christ’s way of life.” The conference concluded with the nomination of committee members to establish the Adventist Health Professionals Association, paving the way for future engagement in disciple-making.
