Teachers on a Mission in the Solomon Islands
QASp Trainning in Honiara
More than 800 Adventist teachers in the Solomon Islands have taken part in workshops on the Quality Adventist Schools Pacific (QASP) Framework.
The workshops were led by Trans Pacific Union Mission (TPUM) General Secretary Talonga Pita and South Pacific Division (SPD) Education Director Dr Elisapesi Manson. More than 300 teachers attended in the Western Solomons and more than 500 in Honiara.
What is QASP?
QASP stands for Quality Adventist Schools Pacific. The framework guides Adventist schools in the Pacific through a structured self-study. Each school identifies its strengths, works on areas that need improvement and plans for future growth.
The self-study also prepares schools for accreditation visits by education directors. But the framework aims beyond academic results. Dr Manson has explained that it equips students, teachers and school communities to take part in the mission of sharing Jesus, helping every school become a place of discipleship and Christ-centred education.
Teachers pause for a moment of Prayer
Travelling for days to learn
The teachers' commitment stood out during the workshops. Some sat outside the hall under the sun to follow the sessions. Others travelled for days to get there.
"I praise God for the commitment and dedication of our teachers to God's work through Adventist Education here in the Solomon Islands," Talonga Pita said.
Schools as evangelistic ground
The training follows the recent School 4 Christ evangelistic campaign, in which 837 students gave their lives to Jesus.
For Talonga Pita, the result shows what Adventist schools can be. "Our schools are evangelistic ground for our church," he said.
Part of a Pacific-wide rollout
The Solomon Islands workshops are part of a wider QASP rollout across the South Pacific. The rollout began in TPUM and the Papua New Guinea Union Mission in March this year.
More than 2000 Adventist teachers across the South Pacific are expected to be trained in the framework by the end of 2026. Teachers elsewhere have shown the same dedication: two teachers in Papua New Guinea trekked the Kokoda Track for six days to attend QASP training.
Please keep the teachers of the Solomon Islands in your prayers as they bring the framework back to their schools.
